Lawrence Lady Boss | SKYE SENSORY

LADY BOSS PROFILE

Meet Lea Frevert, Katie Havelka, and Evan Mies, the owners of Skye Sensory. Skye Sensory is a sister-run business specializing in themed sensory kits. These ladies make their own non-toxic scented playdough and dream up super fun themes that incorporate fine motor skills and engage all of the senses.

What is your goal for the next year?

Next year, we hope to be putting out multiple box themes every month and expand into other sensory activities. We also plan to establish a program where we can donate boxes to children who could benefit from them, whether it be children’s hospitals, schools, etc.

Who has influenced you the most?

We are constantly influenced by our own children and children we have taught throughout our lives. With two of us holding Education degrees and one working with her trained therapy dog in children’s hospitals and schools, we have had the privilege of spending lots of time with kiddos of all ages from many walks of life.

What one piece of advice do you give to other business owners?

Our best advice would be to never underestimate the power of your personal network. The people you already know would probably be more than happy to try your products and help you share them to expand your reach. It’s the best kind of marketing because it’s genuine and basically free.

When you are not working, what are you doing?

You can usually find us chasing kids or dogs! We also love exercising, baking, spending time outside and of course, Target.

What Lawrence hidden gem do you recommend everyone checks out?

While they are not hidden, we have always loved the Dusty Bookshelf and La Prima Tazza. Coffee+Books=Bliss

If you could change one thing about your business, what would you change?

One thing we would change would probably be bigger mixers for making more dough at once, and finding better storage solutions for all of our products and parts.
