Meet Adina Morse, one of the lawyers behind Barnhill & Morse, P.A. - Attorneys at Law. Adina practices with her law partner, dear friend, and firm founder Curtis Barnhill. Adina’s areas of practice are in: division of assets in divorce, specifically qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs) needed to divide retirement accounts, divorce and parenting time mediation, guardianship and conservatorships, wills, and estates (what happens when someone dies). "I really love the divorce mediation and parenting time work because I help people through divorce start to finish and it tends to be more amicable (important when kids are involved), and less expensive."
What is your goal for the next year?
Expand my practice into the area of family law arbitration. I am a trained arbitrator, and the idea of arbitration in family law is beginning to take hold in Kansas and Missouri.
Who has influenced you the most?
That is a tough one. I am a strong believer in surrounding yourself with people who love, support, and challenge you. I have an amazing group of those people in my life. Specifically, though, my mom, Karen Barrow and my sister-in-law Carine Mardorrosian, are two amazingly strong women who overcame tremendous obstacles in their lives and thrived in spite of, and because of them. I am who I am in large part because of their influence. And I would not be where I am professionally without my treasured friend and mentor Larry Rute.
What one piece of advice do you give to other business owners?
Never lose your beginner mind set. I am always learning, improving, and growing. It is what sustains me.
When you are not working, what are you doing?
Spending time with my kids and partner, working out, shopping at ATC, bike riding around Lawrence, reading.
What Lawrence hidden gem do you recommend everyone checks out?
I don’t know if it’s hidden, but Arizona Trading Company at 736 Massachusetts Street is the best thing in Lawrence!! Owner Jen is an amazing Ladyboss!
If you could change one thing about your business, what would you change?
That I had started it earlier.
