Lawrence Lady Boss | SARA TAYLOR
LADY BOSS PROFILE
Meet Sara Taylor, the co-owner of Premier Martial Arts. Premier has been a part of the Lawrence community for over 15 years with Sara and her husband, Mark, as owners for the past 3 years. They teach Krav Maga, an Israeli self-defense system, along with a mixture of kickboxing and Jiu-jitsu. Classes are available for ages as young as 3 up to adults. "Our goal is to empower lives through the martial arts."
What is your goal for the next year?
Our goal for the next year is to come back stronger by growing our Tiny Champs (3-5) group, offer classes for homeschoolers, bring some exciting guest instructors and help as much of the community as possible!
Who has influenced you the most?
My parents ran their own business for several years while working full-time jobs and volunteering. They definitely helped show me how to work hard, persevere and to help others in any way possible. Of course my husband, Mark, has been involved with martial arts and teaching for 10+ years so he influenced me greatly with his passion for Premier and Krav Maga.
What one piece of advice do you give to other business owners?
There will always be ups and downs with owning your own business. If you have people around you that will support you then you can go far. Always be open to learn and communicate!
When you are not working, what are you doing?
Raising two beautiful kids, 5 and 9 months, and working on my own martial arts/physical journey.
What Lawrence hidden gem do you recommend everyone checks out?
I don't get out much so I don't think they're hidden, but I highly recommend 2 Shy Kids and Crystal's Spot.
If you could change one thing about your business, what would you change?
The location. It's kind of hidden.
Sara says, "Premier Martial Arts Lawrence would not have made it through the lockdown if it wasn't for the support of our awesome students, families and our business friends! Thank you everyone and #shoplocal!"
