LADY BOSS PROFILE
Meet Betsy Pool, one of the owners of RPG and VP of Gaming & Research. Betsy manages the massive board game library for Bring RPG Home (and the online database for it), so her work is mainly for and to market Bring RPG Home now (an extension of RPG). If you are unfamiliar with it - RPG is a restaurant in downtown Lawrence that boasts a welcoming atmosphere, elevated comfort food, unique cocktails, and a library of 1,000 board games. With Bring RPG Home, you have options to rent a board game/per night or have a subscription which gives you access to bring up to 2 board games at home at all times.
What is your goal for the next year?
Plan out how to serve our customers even more in 2021. Spread the word about Bring RPG Home to all of Lawrence and see a substantial growth in our subscriber base.
Who has influenced you the most?
My mom and my husband.
My mom has always been one of my biggest supporters, as well as one who has lovingly challenged me to keep striving to be the best I can be. With her encouragement, I have worked to step out of my comfort zone time and time again and I have seen growth because of it.
My husband is one who lovingly challenges me in all areas (he is so hard-working!), but specifically in helping me to see the leader I can be.
What one piece of advice do you give to other business owners?
Bring on / hire out help so that you can market yourself or your product. There is so much to know about marketing and it's overwhelming. That way you can focus on what you are passionate about.
When you are not working, what are you doing?
I spend a lot of my time just being a parent. My husband and I both share the homeschooling role, but it still takes up a lot of my time. I also love reading, writing, chasing new habits, working on puzzles, or learning / playing a new board game.
What Lawrence hidden gem do you recommend everyone checks out?
Ooh...this is tough. There are so many Lawrence gems to check out, but I love love going in to Ruff House Paperie. I love everything paper - planners, journals, cards, etc. and they have so many pretty (and useful) things.
If you could change one thing about your business, what would you change?
I mainly wish that we had thought of and started RPG sooner. I would love RPG to be a more established business (it's so hard that we just got started right before COVID hit). We are learning so much every week, constantly improving, and working better as a team.
