Meet Melissa Pfanenstiel, a fully Licensed Cosmetic Tattoo Artist/Tattoo artist and Cosmetologist in both Kansas and Missouri and a proud Member of the Society Of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals. Melissa can be found in Lawrence at Ad Astra Piercing Co., in Leavenworth at Righteous Tattoo Studio, in Hays at Sore Loser Tattoo, in Great Bend at Studio C, and Goodland at Sara's Beauty Bar. Melissa specializes in Permanent Cosmetics such as Powdered, Ombre, or Combination Eyebrows, Microblading & Permanent Eyeliner. With every procedure Melissa aims to follow cues from your unique features to guide you to your best shape. What is your goal for the next year?
Making balance a priority.
To me, this means while absolutely maintaining a "goal getter" attitude with work - I want to make who I am outside of work just as important. Being a business owner, traveling artist, doing my own bookings, and being home with my daughter when I'm not actively working on clients in the studio; it's nearly impossible to not work from home part time. While I am super blessed to do what I do, it is easy to let that take over everything.
Being shut down for 2 months reminded me the importance of life outside of my career/work life. I wasn't rushing playtime with my daughter or skipping morning yoga to answer emails. I was deeply engaged, getting to know her- even doing evening yoga, too!
I am 💯% happy to be back to work, just working on setting those boundaries and clocking out of work mentally when it's time. We all need rest!
Who has influenced you the most?
Oh wow. This is a hard one. First and foremost my mentor, Saville Evans with Transformation Gallery in Springfield, Mo. She introduced me to the Permanent Make-up world, taught me everything I know, and connected me to other amazing ladies I look up to. Kaety Bowers at the Tinted room in KC is extremely talented produces beautiful work, Kara Gutierrez at Spot on Beauty in Lee's Summit is phenomenal with areola restoration tattooing and really anything she touches, and Teryn Darling out in Las Vegas doing so much for education within the PMU industry through her amazing Girlz Ink Studio.
What one piece of advice do you give to other business owners?
Be a sponge, shadow business owners you look up to and ask all the questions. Oh, and keep ALL the receipts.❤️
When you are not working, what are you doing?
Momming it up! I have a 5 year old daughter and 2 fur children that eat up most of my spare time.💜
What Lawrence hidden gem do you recommend everyone checks out?
If you have pre-school age children, check out Green Pastures! Ms. Jessica, Ms. Dana, Ms. Joy, and Ms. Fernanda (the mother my child wishes she had😜) are all super amazing. We were heartbroken that our year was cut short.
If you could change one thing about your business, what would you change?
🤔 I've always worn a new disposable facemask during the procedure - so it'd be pretty cool if we could get the regular price on masks back. Does that count?
