Meet Juliann Courtney, the photographer behind Juliann Courtney - Newborn Photographer. Juliann is a newborn and family photographer based here in Lawrence Kansas. "I have been in business nearly 10 years now and am so lucky I get to do something I love every day!"
What is your goal for the next year?
I'm just honestly hoping to get back to some version of normal! I work with brand new babies with next to no immune system, so navigating having my business open during this pandemic has been a little touchy! I'm thankful to be back in business now, though!
Who has influenced you the most?
My own children. They're what started me on this path to opening my own business! Now, they're starting to be interested in learning to take photographs as well and I'm loving learning through their eyes as well.
What one piece of advice do you give to other business owners?
Keep going. Owning a business has so many ups and downs (especially this year) and it can be really easy to get discouraged. Just keep putting one step in front of the other and pivoting when you need to.
When you are not working, what are you doing?
I love swimming with my kids and playing disc golf with my partner. We also enjoy camping and road trips as often as possible!
What Lawrence hidden gem do you recommend everyone checks out?
All of the restaurants - we have such a great food scene! My most recent find is Terrebonne....so delicious!

If you could change one thing about your business, what would you change?
I spend an awful lot of time worrying and anxious. I'm a planner and this year has taught me that I can't always plan for the circumstances you can't see coming. I'm learning to plan for what I can and ride out the rest.
